Video game industry wins two more court victories against violence laws

The Entertainment Software Association has recently added two new victories to the ongoing battle against anti-gamer legislation. The United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit has agreed that current labeling requirements and restrictions on games were "overbroad and not narrowly tailored."

A similar victory was acheived when the District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana had ordered a permanent injunction against a law that would effectively ban the salve of violent games to minors. According to Judge James Brady, "the evidence that was submitted to the legislature in connection with the bill that became the statute is sparse and could hardly be called in any sense reliable."

This law that was drafted by video game critic, Jack Thompson. Thompson’s conduct in an unrelated law suit over the game Bully has prompted a complaint against him with the Florida Bar association.
